Russia urges global ban on ISIL, Nusra
The Russian Foreign Ministry has called for the universal recognition of the Takfiri ISIL and al-Nusra Front as terrorist groups.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Russia has recently taken the initiative of listing the Syria- and Iraq-based groups as terrorists, outlawing membership in and any sort of support for the militants.
The statement said that the steps adopted by Moscow were entirely in line with the UN Security Council resolutions 2170 and 2178 on threats to international peace and security created by terror attacks.
“Russia’s Foreign Ministry is calling upon all countries that have not yet done so to follow Russia’s example and put the Islamic State (ISIL) and the Al-Nusra Front on national terrorist lists and ban their activities, as provided for by corresponding decisions of the UN Security Council,” said the official statement as cited in an RT report.
Both terror groups have been supported by Western countries, Turkey and their Arab allies in the Middle East while they waged a militancy in Syria to overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
Over the past six months, the ISIL terrorists alone have killed 1,878 people in Syria, mostly civilians, according to the UK-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
This is while nearly 80,000 Takfiri terrorists are estimated to be currently engaged in fighting for ISIL as the group continues to recruit like-minded elements from all over the world.
However, there has been little international effort in tracking the huge funding and support for the two terror groups, which are widely believed to be linked to Saudi Arabia and its Persian Gulf allies.
