Foreign Policy: Biden’s Victory Ends Bin Salman’s Immunity

A report by the American magazine the Foreign Policy painted a bleak picture of the relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia in the event that the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden wins the US presidential elections. It reported that several global capitals have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winner, but there is no one who is more anxious and anticipating the outcome than Riyadh and its young crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

The report believes that Bin Salman had immunity during the Trump era, after he convinced the US president that “Saudi Arabia is ready to buy billions of dollars in American weapons, oppose Iran, and communicate with Israel.”

However, “if Biden wins, this means the end of the era of immunity, and the opening of the human rights record inside the Kingdom and in Yemen,” according to the report.

The report added, “Biden has always described Saudi Arabia as a pariah, and has vehemently opposed Saudi Arabia’s war on Yemen, and urged a reassessment of its relationship with Washington.”
The announcement of the winner of the US presidential election is still pending, amid continued counting processes in the remaining five states, and accusations by the Trump campaign of electoral fraud.
The Foreign Policy report continued that the implications of Biden’s possible victory will not be limited to Saudi-American relations only, but may be accompanied by a revival of the nuclear agreement with Iran in a way that avoids any clash with Israeli enemy, according to the report.
