Hamas leader Khaled Mishal criticizes Sheikh Qaradawi remarks against Syrian Government

khalid_mashalHamas Damascus-based leader Khaled Mashal on Sunday criticized recent remarks by Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi on the situation in Syria. Several Arabic-language media outlets reported that Mashal criticized Al-Qaradawi’s comments.

It is worth-mentioning here that Yousuf Al-Qaradawi, head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, called on Sunni Muslims to rebel against the ruling regime of Syrian President Bashar ul Assad. Syrian President Bashar-ul-Assad, is the only opponent of Zionist regime Israel on all Arab States and strong supporter of Palestinian freedom movement of Hamas and Islami Jihad.

The Hamas leader Khaled Mashal was quoted as saying “I call upon Sheikh Qaradawi to make his judgments out of conscience and to free himself from the pressures exerted on him by certain sides he believes to be trustworthy.”

Further, Mashal was reported as saying that Sunni leaders in the Arab world had abandoned the Palestinian people, and that Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad was the only Arab leader to offer Hamas shelter. According to reports, Mashal reproached Qaradawi, and said his remarks against religious unity in Syria hurt Palestinians and served only Israel.

The Islamist movement has said it sympathizes with Syria’s people and government because both “have stood by the Palestinian people and resistance and have always been steadfast before all pressures.
