Gaza casualties tops 230,000 amid Israeli genocide and famine

The Israeli occupation continues its genocide in Gaza through relentless bombing, siege, and starvation tactics that have persisted since October 7, 2023.

On Friday, September 19, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that 33 martyrs were received by hospitals in the last 24 hours, including one body pulled from beneath the rubble. An additional 146 injuries were also recorded.

Rescue and civil defense crews remain unable to reach numerous victims still trapped under debris or lying on the streets.

According to the Ministry of Health, continued Israeli targeting and the collapse of vital infrastructure have left emergency teams without the capacity to respond adequately.

Since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, the total number of martyrs has reached 65,174, with 166,071 others wounded, a total of 231,245 casualties.

Since the war resumed on March 18, 2025, the toll stands at 12,622 martyrs and 54,030 injuries, a staggering rise in just six months.
Famine in Gaza claims more lives, including children
In yet another attack targeting Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid, one martyr and 17 injuries were reported in recent hours. This brings the number of Palestinians killed while attempting to access food to 2,514, with over 18,431 wounded.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed four new deaths from hunger and malnutrition, including one child. This raises the total death toll from famine in Gaza to 440 martyrs, including 147 children.

Amid the deepening humanitarian catastrophe, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Thursday that Gaza’s health system is nearing total collapse.

“Gaza’s already overwhelmed hospitals are on the verge of collapse as escalating violence obstructs access and prevents the WHO from delivering vital medical equipment,” he said.

Also on Thursday, the UN failed to adopt a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip due to the US using its veto power

Per to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, the US rejected the resolution due to not condemning Hamas nor recognizing “Israel’s” so-called “right to defend itself.”

This marks the sixth time the US has used its veto power in such a manner.
