Residents of Damascus countryside mark 1st martyrdom anniversary of Lt. General Soleimani

Huge crowds from Damascus countryside flocked to mark the first martyrdom anniversary of Iran’s top commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani.

Held in Eastern Ghouta, once a hub for terrorists, residents attended the ceremony to pay tribute as a sign of gratitude for General Soleimani’s key-role in defeating terrorism in Syria.

Iran’s ambassador to Syria condemned the heinous assassination crime, underlining the importance of unity of Muslims against the US and Israeli plots in the region. Speakers praised the top commander’s support to Syria as a key factor for restoring security to many parts of the Arab country.

A photograph exhibition was also organized to shed light on General Soleimani’s achievements in Syria and Iraq. Gen. Soleimani, assassinated by the US a year ago in Iraq, headed Iranian military advisers in Syria at its government’s request and, for years, played a pivotal role in defeating terrorism and liberating many towns and villages.

In Syria, the memory of General Soleimani reminds everyone of the principles of sacrifice, brotherhood, friendship and unity. This is just one of many ceremonies held in Syria to commemorate him and appreciate all his achievements.
