20 martyred in terror attack targeting Hazara Shia Muslims in Quetta
At least 20 people embrcaed martyrdom and over two dozen others injured in a blast that targeted members of Shia Hazara community in Quetta’’ Hazarganji market in the morning today (Friday).
Deputy Inspector General Abdul Razzaq Cheema csaid that the attack took place in a [green grocer’s] shop. Earlier, it was said that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted in a gunny sack filled with potatoes but later media quoted official sources as saying that suicide bomber exploded there. Whether it was timed or remote-controlled, our experts will tell. Right now they are investigating,” he said. Eight of those killed were Hazara Shia Muslims. At least one Frontier Corps soldier deputed for their security was also martyred in the attack, DIG said. Others who lost their lives included shopkeepers, businessmen and citizens working or residing in the area. Four FC soldiers were among the injured.
“We are giving our attention to the wounded at this time,” he said. The injured have been shifted to hospitals ─ where an emergency has been imposed ─ for treatment.
“We have arranged transportation back [home] for Shia Hazaras who remained unhurt in the attack.”
It may be noted here that outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba terrorist ringleader Ramzan Mengal was released three days ago and he had been preaching anti-Shia pogrom since long.
