In his maiden visit, ECO secretary general praises Pakistan role for regional development

Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Secretary General Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour, who is on his maiden visit to Pakistan, on Thursday, lauded the role of Pakistan for regional progress and development, in a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at his office in Islamabad.

The two sides discussed matters of mutual interests, economic progress, trade, development and other issues.
ECO Secretary General Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour apprised the foreign minister about the motto of the organization, he said that ECO help boost economic ties among different countries to increase economic activities in the region. The ECO sectary general assured the foreign minister about the body’s complete cooperation.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan was the founding member of the body and added that Islamabad was acting upon an agenda of economic stability and progress.
Earlier, to beef up trade and investment in the region that falls under Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), President Dr. Arif Alvi had called for further strengthening transport and communication infrastructure.
Talking to Secretary General to Economic Cooperation Organization Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour in Islamabad on Thursday, he had said this region has the potential and capacity to function as a bridge between North and South as well as Europe and Asia, Radio Pakistan reported.
“Pakistan is upgrading its railway and road infrastructures to facilitate smooth flow of goods to its neighbours and to promote trade opportunities within the region,” President Alvi told him.
