Anti-takfiri Sunni politician allowed to contest election from Jhang
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition challenging the decision of appellate court allowing renowned anti-takfiri Sunni politician Sheikh Waqas Akram to contest election to National Assembly from NA-115 constituency.
The petitioner Muhammad Imran, a voter from the constituency, pleaded that the returning officer had rejected the nomination papers of Waqas Akram for concealing his assets.
However, an appellate tribunal accepted the appeal of Akram from Jhang district, set aside the decision of the RO and allowed him to contest the election.
