ASWJ leader Aurangzeb Farooqui’s nomination for electoral contest challenged
The civil society activist Rashid Rizvi has approached the Elections Appellate Tribunal Sindh to challenge the acceptance of banned ASWJ’s ringleader Aurangzeb Farooqui’s nomination papers for contesting Election to Sindh Assembly from Karachi Malir’s PS-91 constituency.
The appellant has argued that Farroqui is associated with (notorious takfiri terrorist outfits) Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) — both were banned for their terrorism and violent extremism.
Rizvi said Farooqui has been nominated in the first information report of the murder of rights activist Khurram Zaki. He said that Farooqui, contesting under Rah-e-Haq Party banner, has also failed to disclose these details in his nomination papers, which should, therefore, be rejected.
Farooqui had been defeated in the 2013 elections from the erstwhile PS-128 constituency in Karachi.
