Opposition leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman on Friday voiced concern over blocking of Pakistan’s move to place a most wanted terrorist, Umar Khalid Khurasani, of the (banned Deobandi takfiri outfit) Jamaat-ul-Ahrar on the United Nations Sanctions Committee list.

She raised these concerns a day after receiving official confirmation that Pakistan’s proposal to place Khurasani on the UN Sanctions Committee list had been shot down after a member raised objections to it. Though the Foreign Office has refrained from disclosing the name of that member, official sources have claimed that it was the United States that blocked the move.
Speaking in the Senate, Ms Rehman said that Khurasani had masterminded a number of terrorist activities in Pakistan, including the attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar. She said the man was responsible for killing many security officials as well as civilians in the country.
Following these remarks by Senator Rehman, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani summoned officials from the foreign ministry to respond to her questions.
