People of Gilgit-Baltistan be taken on board on their future set up: Ilyas Siddiqui

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Gilgit-Baltistan chapter spokesman Ilyas Siddiqui has urged the Pakistan government that no decision on future set-up for G-B should be taken against the will of people of this region.

“We, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have right to decide our fate. If Kashmir issue impedes you to make G-B full-fledged administrative province of Pakistan, then Azad Jammu and Kashmir like set-up or set-up enforced in occupied Kashmir may be emulated for Gilgit-Baltistan as well,” Siddiqui said, in an interview.
He ruled out the differences between Sunni and Shia Muslims of Gilgit-Baltistan on the issue of future set-up. He said people of Gilgit-Baltistan are united to decide their future set-up and they want AJK or IHK-like autonomous administrative set-up.
Shia leaders want that no outsiders should be allowed to buy land in Gilgit-Baltistan and those who got land should be forced to surrender that land. They also opposed influx of Afghans and other outsiders in the G-B region to change the demography of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Ilyas Siddiqui emphasized that Pakistan government must not ignore the will and wishes of people of Gilgit-Baltistan while finalizing the status of their region.
