Expressing solidarity with Shiites, Sunni scholars issue decree to ban Geo for blasphemous broadcast
Sunni religious authorities have issued a religious decree asking the followers not to watch Geo channel and boycott the Geo’s media group.
The decree was announced by Sahibzada Hamid Raza, chief of Sunni Ittehad Council at a joint press conference with former Senator Faisal Raza Abedi in Islamabad. Geo TV broadcasted a qawwali about the marriage of Hazrat Ali (AS) with Bibi Fatima Zahra (AS) but the anchor of the programme Dr Shaista Wahidi danced vulgarly and clapped with shoes.
The program was about the reenactment of marriage of Veena Malik an actress who is notorious for her obscene and vulgar acting in films and shows.
Faisal Abedi announced protest day on Sunday and Dr Rehan Azmi from Karachi protested against the government for its inaction against the blasphemy.
Geo channel and its anchor person Dr Shaista Lodhi apologized for the scenes broadcasted during Qawwali. But, religious authorities repudiated them.
Faisal Abedi said that Jang Group had been apologizing since 1985 to date and constantly repeated the blasphemy against the Ahl-e-Bait (AS).
