Taliban claims responsibility for terrorist attack on Karachi police
Banned terrorist outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack that left at least 13 police cops martyred and over 50 injured in Karachi on Thursday morning.
According to Shiite News Monitoring Desk, the TTP spokesman statement was aired by Geo News channel late on Thursday afternoon. It was lead story of the News headlines at 4.30 p.m.
“Police and rangers killed our comrades in Karachi, Peshawar, Sawabi and elsewhere hence we carried out today in Karachi,” said a spokesman for the TTP. He said that such attacks would continue.
A bomb blast near a police bus at the exit of Karachi’s Razzaqabad Police Training Centre in Shah Latif Town area killed 13 police officials, and injured at least 57 others.
The bus was carrying police commandoes on their way to provide security at Bilawal House.
There were conflicting reports as to whether the explosion was caused by a suicide attack or a remote-controlled bomb blast.
Munir Sheikh, a senior police official, told the reporters the attack took place early morning.
“Apparently, it was a suicide car attack as an explosive-laden car hit the police bus transporting officials,” Sheikh had stated earlier today.
Another official, Farooq Awan, who heads a special investigative unit, said the bus was making a U-turn after leaving a training centre when a small van struck it.
