Chehlum of Karbala martyrs being marked across Pakistan

Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) and his companions is being commemorated across the country today (Tuesday) amid heightened security.

The event marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his 72 companions.

Imam Hussain, Prophet Mohammadâ€™s grandson, his close family and friends were martyred in an unequal battle at Karbala in Iraq over 1,300 years ago.

Alam, Tazia and Zuljinah mourning processions are being taken out around the country to mark this day.

Extraordinary security arrangements have been made to protect the mourning processions. In Karachi, aerial monitoring will also be carried out.
