Missing rights activist returns as another Shia taken into illegal custody
Syed Samar Abbas, a renowned rights activist, who had gone missing 10 months ago, has returned home after continued legal and democratic struggle by his family and supporters. However, another Shia Muslim from Chakwal was taken into illegal custody and subjected to enforced disappearance since January 2018.
The rights activist Samar Abbas, a resident of Karachi, had gone to Islamabad in connection with his business-related engagements. From there, some cops in plainclothes picked up him without any formal charge.
Abdul Hussain son of Piran Ditta of Chakwal’s Mangan village was taken into illegal and undeclared custody.
His family said Abdul Hussain had never remained involved in any sort of criminal activity. The family said if there is any charge against him, he must be produced in the court of law for fair trial and be allowed legal defence.
