Family letter to CJP, COAS against enforced disappearance of Mumtaz Rizvi
On behalf of the family, his wife has sent a letter to the Chief of the Army Staff and Chief Justice of Pakistan seeking their intervention for immediate release of Engineer Syed Mumtaz Hussain Rizvi who is believed to have been subjected to enforced disappearance.
The wife of Mumtaz Rizvi informed the CJP and COAS that his husband, a resident of New Rizvi Society, Karachi, had gone missing since January 23, 2018. The family lodged complaint with Sachal Police Station Karachi about it but his whereabouts have not been made known to them till Saturday (today). She said they checked all hospitals and rescue agencies including Edhi Foundation but none of them had any information about Syed Mumtaz Hussain Rizvi.
Hence, the family and friends of Syed Mumtaz Hussain Rizvi believe that he was taken into illegal and undeclared custody and have been subjected to enforced disappearance.
Mumtaz Rizvi, a graduate in Electrical Engineering, has been engaged in computer sales business. He also served nation as a teacher and enrolled as a doctoral student at SZABIST. He had no criminal record. He is also a social worker and runs a magazine, as well. He had left New Rizvia Society residence on January 23, 2018, for business activity, as per his routine but has not returned home despite passage of more than a week.
“Unfortunately, in our motherland Pakistan, some elements are above the law and they have been proving by their actions that they damn care the Constitutional laws and laws relating to citizens rights. Syed Mumtaz Hussain Rizvi, is an educated loyal son of Pakistan but he is being denied his right to legal defence that is totally unfair. If any security agency has whisked away him and put him under detention, then, he must be produced in the court of law and family members including his wife, elderly mother and children should be allowed to meet him. If there is any charge that must be made known to him and his heirs so that we could defend him in the court of law; but, unfortunately, those who are required to uphold the Constitution and Law, it seems, they are trying to suppress law and disrespect the Constitution by denying an innocent citizen and taxpayer his due right to fair trial if there is any charge against him, although we know there is no registered case against him,” says the letter.
The family requested the CJP and COAS to play their much-needed Constitutional role by taking notice of his missing and direct all the relevant security officials, law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies to ensure immediate release of Syed Mumtaz Hussain Rizvi.
