Chehlum being observed across Pakistan to pay homage to Imam Hussain (AS)
The Chehlum (Arbaeen) of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and other martyrs of Karbala is being observed today on Friday in all cities and towns across Pakistan. Mourning processions are being held in all major cities of Pakistan.
Muslims observe Arbaeen with religious solemnity and respect across the world on 20th of Safar every year. Zuljanah, Alam and Tazia processions are being taken out while Majalis are being held in all big or small cities and towns of the country to pay homage to the great sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in Karbala.
Millions of the mourners have come out on streets to participate in the Arbaeen walk in Pakistan also.
On the occasion, a public holiday has been announced in many cities while schools have also declared holiday.
Meanwhile, strict security arrangements are in place across the country to ensure the safety of the mourners. Heavy contingent of police and Frontier Corps have been deployed along the route and inside the procession.
Cellphone services have been suspended by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Shikarpur and Jacobabad until 10pm today at the request of the Sindh government, the chief minister’s spokesperson said.
All schools and colleges across Sindh province will remain closed on the occasion.
The thoroughfares connected to the routes of the procession have been sealed while placing containers and are being monitored by CCTV cameras.
