Sit-in protest for missing Shias postponed on request of committee
Allama Dr Aqeel Moosa, a member of nazarat of ISO Pakistan, announced beginning of sit-in protest at Karachi Numaish Chowrangi for the recovery of missing Shias but postponed it after the Missing Shias Release Committee that has launched Fill the Jails Movement for the same cause.
The announcement was made at a demonstration for the release of missing Shias in Karachi where families of the victims of the enforced disappearances had largely attended. Allama Nisar Qalandari of Zakireen-e-Imamia and Rashid Rizvi of Pasban-e-Aza were also present.
Speaking to the protesters, Dr Aqeel Moosa vowed that he would do whatever the families of the victims want for release of their near and dear ones.
“Our demands are legitimate and within the ambit of the Constitution. Either produce them in court for trial if there is any charge against them or release them forthwith,” he urged.
Allama Aqeel Moosa further said that since they were detained for long it showed they were not guilty of anything hence we demand they should be released forthwith. He asked the Chief of the Army Staff to play his role for immediate release of missing Shias. He proposed that a new and powerful judicial commission be formed to oversee the release of the victims of the enforced disappearances.
However, members of the Missing Shias Release Committee requested him and the families of missing Shias to postpone sit-in protest since Shia leaders and scholars have been courting their arrest under Jail Bharo Tehreek. They accepted their request and announced deferring the sit-in.
