Police responsible for acquittal of Muharram blast terrorists: MWM

The Majlis-e- Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has expressed its serious concern over what it believed was “inefficiency of the police officials concerned” that led to the recent acquittal and release of the terrorists involved in the infamous Jacobabad bomb attack case.

More that 25 people were killed and scores others wounded in a bomb blast that occurred while a Muharram procession was passing through its traditional route in Jacobabad city in October 2015.
MWM General Secretary Allama Maqsood Domki, speaking at a news conference in the Jacobabad Press Club on Friday, said it was a matter of great concern for the Shia community that the terrorists netted by various agencies after hectic efforts could not be taken to task because of inefficiency and poor performance on the part of the police officials concerned.
He said the MWM had lodged a written protest with the Sindh government and the inspector-general of police in this regard.
“They have assured us that appropriate action would be taken against those found responsible [for the failure of prosecution in the case] … they have also promised to challenge the trial court’s verdict in the Sindh High Court,” Allama Domki claimed.
The MWM leader recalled that the suspects who had stood trial in two terrorist attacks targeted against the Shia community in Shikarpur earlier had also escaped punishment due to improper prosecution and slackness on the part of police.
“The government ought to realise now why terrorism could not be rooted out from the country,” he remarked.
Allama Domki also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits of the Qalandar shrine carnage of Feb 16 this year, and stressed that their identities must be made public.
He said all Shia organisations had repeatedly been demanding protection for members and holy places of the community across Sindh in the wake of each act of terrorism.
“We again appeal to the federal and provincial authorities concerned to take appropriate measures in this regard on an urgent basis, he added.
Allama Domki also criticised excessive power loadshedding in Sindh during the holy month of Ramazan and said it was a solid proof of government’s negligence and failure.
Syed Fazal Abbas Shah, Nisar Abro, Hassan Raza and other Shia leaders accompanied the allama at the press conference.
