Glorifying Deobandi terrorist thru media angers Senate committee

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control condemned the incident of bringing Ehsanullah Ehsan – a former spokesperson and one of the top leaders of Deobandi takfiri Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – to a TV channel and urged to stop his glorification by presenting him as a hero.

The committee which met with Senator Abdul Rehman Malik expressed displeasure over bringing Ehsanullah Ehsan, who had surrendered to security forces, to TV channel and termed it a violation of law. “Ehsan is a hardcore criminal and he fought against Pakistan so he is traitor,” said Malik, adding that Ehsan was the first who claimed responsibility of attack on Malala Yousafzai, therefore, he should be nominated in the FIR registered against attackers on Malala.
Malik said that glorification of terrorists is clearly prohibited and a heinous crime under anti-terrorists act and National Action Plan (NAP). “ Ehsan should be executed as he is killer of thousands of people,” he said, adding that he is a terrorist who accepted the responsibility for killing thousands of innocent Pakistanis, both troops and civilians, adding that a terrorist should be treated as a terrorist.
He said that the appearance of Ehsan on television hurt the sentiments of millions of Pakistanis, particularly the victim families of terrorist attacks across the country. He demanded an apology from the government for allowing Ehsan to appear in a television interview.
He said that he saw no remorse on the face of monster like Ehsan whose hands are stained with Pakistanis’ blood. Malik said that the nation is desperately waiting for the hanging of Ehsan to set a precedent as there is no provision of mercy for such killers in the law of the country.
Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that showing Ehsan as a hero and treating him as a guest should be stopped. “Bringing such brutal and anti-state people on TV channel is an insult to our martyred children and people,” he said, adding that the man who played football with heads of martyrs should be executed.
He said that Ehsan’s trial should be started on immediate basis and he should be treated like terrorists.
Senator Muhammad Ali Khan Saif said that bringing Ehsan on TV channel will negatively affect his case at prosecution level just like the case of Indian RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Senator Muhammad Saleh Shah said that showing Ehsan on TV channel would not be a good action and it will give a negative message to the nation. He further said that the government has given privileges to those who surrendered before security forces and they have set up their offices in Tank, DI Khan and Bannu.
