Enforced disappearance of anti-Daesh social media users by CTD Punjab

The Counterterrorism Department (CTD) of Punajb police have begun an illegal witch-hunt against the moderate and anti-extremism Pakistanis for liking and sharing posts against the takfiri Daesh group of terrorists using social media. Undeclared and illegal arrests are made without any formal case against them.

One such victim of District Khushab who had been tortured in the illegal custody for four days revealed to Urdu daily Jang’s Islamabad-based correspondent Atif Shirazi that he received a call that some customers wanted to send their cargo to another city but his shop was closed hence he must come to entertain the caller.
He went his shop where motorcyclists forced him to take away and when he resisted they took out pistols and pointed at him and threatened to obey their orders. When he raise hue and cry, two of his acquaintance in the area gathered to help him and then the armed men told that they are personnel of the CTD and wanted to take him to Joharabad police station.
When he insisted that he be taken to Khushab police station, they first took him to that police station but cops at the Khushab police regretted that they cannot intervene because the armed men in plainclothes were personnel of security agency.
Then, the CTD officials blindfolded me and shifted to an unknown place and began torturing him. They were asking why he liked a post of a (moderate and anti-takfiri) cleric on social media. They also accused him of sending anti-Daesh Pakistanis to Syria even though he had sent none to Syria.
He said his family members and friends had information that he was picked up by who hence they approached a provincial minister who hails from their area. The Minister became a guarantor that he was not involved in any illegal activity then CTD cops released him after taking oath that he would not seek legal action against their illegal action.
Under the Provision of Electronic Crime Act 2016, action may be taken against those who share or like any post on social media that falls in the category of hate-materials. But, there must be no arrest under that law without an FIR and for registration of an FIR, permission from court has been made a compulsory requirement. But, CTD Punjab is violating that law too by undeclared arrest, illegal detention and inhuman torture of anti-terrorist Pakistanis.

Patriot Pakistanis have condemned the enforced disappearance of the rights activists and social media critics of terrorism and extremism in Pakistan. They have asked the United Nations and world human rights bodies to take notice of it.
