Tahir Ashrafi, a pro-Saudi Deobandi cleric was deposed as chief his party by other colleagues of his party and endorsed the appointment of Zahid Mehmood Qasmi, another Deobandi cleric as Pakistan’s Deobandi Ulema Council chief.

Ashrafi was accused of taking decisions without endorsement from the consultative body of his Ulema Council that pitted many of his comrades against him. He had recently made visits of Saudi Arabia and some European countries.
Since other of his comrades, are also pro-Saudi, hence they cited that Ashrafi had entered into agreements with Germany, British and US on his own. They deliberately ignored to mention Saudi monarchy whom Ashrafi got very close and recently had met Deputy Crown Prince/Defence Minister Prince Mohamed bi n Salman bin Abdul Aziz-al Saud in the kingdom.
Tahir Ashrafi was found drunkard many a times and he was pictured in an inappropriate condition and environment on a beach that is highly undesirable for a Muslim scholar.
However, Ashrafi said, Zahid Mehmood Qasmi had support from only one member of Shoora Council of his party hence his decision was against the rules of his party.
