Parliamentary leaders to meet on Feb 23 to decide military courts extension

Government has called a meeting of parliamentary leaders to discuss extension in tenure of army courts on February 23 instead of the date given earlier, February 27.

While addressing the Senate today, Federal Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar said that the government wishes to solve the outstanding matter with consensus of all the political parties exactly like it was done in 2015.
Military courts were established in 2015 to try terrorists for the first time for speedy trials and sentences.
The government had amended Constitution of Pakistan for the act after a terror attack on Army Public School in 2014 claimed lives of over 130 students besides woman principal of the institute.
Tenure of the army courts expired by the end of 2016 and the government approached political organisations seeking approval for extension.
