Shia Muslims celebrating anniversary of beginning of leadership of Imam Mahdi

Shia Muslims of Pakistan are celebrating the Eid-e-Imamat today to mark the anniversary of the beginning of the Imamat (infallible leadership) of Imam Mohammad Mahdi son of Imam Hassan Askari (AS).

The 9th Rabiul Awwal is also revered as Eid-e-Shujaa and Eid Zahra due to end of over 2 months long anniversary of mourning for martyrs of Karbala that is from the first Moharram to 8th Rabiul Awwal. Shia Muslims of Pakistan and India observe incessant mourning for more than two months and the 9th Rabiul Awwal is formal end to that annual mourning.
Shiites offer special prayers and recited ziyarat on the 9th Rabiul Awwal. Elders give Eidi to the youngsters. Shia Muslims wear new dresses to mark this Eid.
