arrist-480x238Two men, one suspected of involvement in the Abbas Town blast, also alleged suspect of Prof Sibta Jaffar assasination and the other believed to be responsible for the Sir Syed SHO’s murder, have been arrested, police said on Tuesday.

Two alleged extortionists affiliated with a political party have also been rounded up.

The District City police said they had arrested Obaidullah, an activist of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Naeem Bukhari group, for his involvement in the bomb blast in Abbas Town in March this year that killed over 45 people.

The police seized a Kalashnikov, three grenades and a TT pistol.

The police said they were tipped off about Obaidullah’s presence near Spencer’s Eye Hospital.

They raided the suspect’s hideout and after a shoot-out, arrested him.

The police said Obaidullah had provided 110 kilograms of explosives to Inamullah through Khalil alias Malangi that was detonated in Abbas Town.

They added that Inamullah had already been arrested.

Obaidullah is believed to be responsible for the murder of Syed Akmal Hussain Zaidi, the son of an Imambargah trustee in Gulberg last year.

He was also allegedly involved in the murder of Dr Ahsan Alam in New Karachi this year in addition to the killing of Prof Sibte Jaffar Zaidi in Liaquatabad.

The police said Obaidullah was arrested twice in drugs and murder cases in Mominabad in 2005.
