Punjab govt seeks deployment of army and rangers for Moharram security

Punjab government has sought deployment of contingents of Pakistan Army and Rangers for security of key installations, business points, markets and processions during Muharram. Shia Muslims commemorate the anniversary of martyrdoms of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions but Saudi co-religionist Wahhabi takfiris such as al-Qaeda and Daesh and their allied Deobandi takfiris such as ASWJ/Lashkar-e-Jhangvi attack Moharram congregations also and they pose serious threat to Pakistan’s security.

Official document in which the request for division-wise deployment request has been made is produced here in the above image. Official sources said that the paramilitary and military personnel would help secure the province and counter any untoward incident during the month that sees many processions and gatherings of religious importance.
The security personnel will be deployed in major cities of administrative divisions such Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal and others.
Reportedly, three companies of Rangers and the military each would be deployed in the provincial capital.
