Gilgit: PML-N rides the victory wave

Shiite News: Polling for six seats of the Council was held at Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly in Gilgit today. Returning officer Raheem Gul announced the results after completion of voting.

According to unofficial results, all four candidates of PML-N have won Gilgit-Baltistan Council elections. One candidate of Islami Tehreek (Shia Ulema Council) and an independent also won the elections. Each candidate received five thousand votes.

The successful candidates included Arman Shah, Sultan Ali Khan, Muhammad Ashraf Sada and Wazir Akhlaq Hussain of PML-N, Syed Muhammad Abbas Rizvi of Islami Tehreek, and Syed Afzal, an independent candidate.

Gilgit Baltistan council is composed of 15 members, including Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Governor of Gilgit Baltistan, and 6 members are elected via legislative assembly whereas rest of the members are selected by the Federal government on the basis of their designation. Council’s chairman is equal to the PM according to the designation.
