NAP: Government shuts down 254 seminaries across country

Shiite New: Government in line with the implementation of NAP has shut down 254 unregistered and suspicious seminaries across the country while monitoring of 190 seminaries’ funding has been handed over to FIA because these seminaries have been involved in receiving funds from foreign countries (Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries). The registration form for registration of seminaries jointly prepared by National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and ITMP has been forwarded to the concerned provincial and federal security institutions for seeking their opinion. The Interior Ministry has completed the process of collecting data of religious seminaries in Punjab and Islamabad, while 80 per cent of work in Sindh, 75per cent in KPK and 60 per cent in Baluchistan has been completed.

According to Interior Ministry, a total of 182 seminaries have been shut down across the country for being involved in suspicious activities including 167 of Sindh, 13 of KPK and 2 seminaries of Punjab. In addition to this, 72 unregistered seminaries have also been shut down in Sindh. Sources told that FIA has been given the task of monitoring accounts and funding of 190 seminaries which have been receiving funds from foreign countries. These include 147 seminaries of Punjab, 6 of Sindh, 7 of KPK and 30 seminaries of Baluchistan.
