Supreme Court asks why IB report on Abbas Town taken for granted

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has asked from the Intelligence Bureau why no further action was taken when they had a comprehensive report about Abbas Town Tragedy. He raised this question while hearing the Abbas Town Tragedy Case in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. Pakistan Rangers, Special Branch and the IB submitted their reports to the Court. Police officials informed the court that they would not get additional force without the Court’s orders therefore he should order the government to provide more cops. The Chief Justice replied that it is government’s job to do needful and not the Supreme Court‘s. Chief Justice rejected the notion of sectarianism and said that the terrorism is due to power tussle. He said that it is tussle on power that the city is closed down within minutes and people are harassed. Commissioner Karachi Hashim Raza Zaidi informed the Court that cheques were ready and 118 victims of the blast would be given those cheques by tonight. Chief Justice has taken suo motu notice of the Abbas Town Tragedy. He has constituted a 5-members larger bench of the SC to hear the case. Meanwhile, Shehla Raza, deputy speaker Sindh Assembly gave away cheques to 16 injured at the hospital till the filing of this report.
