An account of Professor Hamid’s fight with terrorists

Chemistry Professor who sacrificed his life while saving lives of his students in the attack on Bacha Khan University has been paid tribute, by people, with titles of ‘Martyr’ and ‘Gentleman’.

When Taliban attacked the University on Wednesday morning, Professor Syed Hamid Hussain, who was assistant Professor in Chemistry department, ordered his students to remain in the class. His students told how Hamid Hussain kept terrorists engaged by firing, before his death and it was because of this that students got time to save their lives.

A student told the reporter that he saw 3 terrorists, who were chanting slogans of ‘Allah Akbar’, coming towards his department. One of the students jumped from the window but we did not see him standing again.

He further told that he saw Professor Hamid Hussain firing at terrorists after which he (Hamid Hussain) fall down and as soon as terrorists entered the registrar office we ran away.

A student of Geology department Zahoor Ahmed told that when they heard the sound of first bullet Professor Hamid told them not to go out from the room. He further told that he had seen Hamid Hussain receiving a bullet and firing on two terrorists. ‘I ran inside and succeeded in running away by jumping the back wall’, he told.

A sociology student declared Professor Hamid Hussain as a great human being and told a news agency AFP that terrorists directly fired on him.

People also paid tribute to Professor Hamid Hussain on a large scale on Twitter and journalist and teacher Raza Ahmed Rumi, in his tweet, declared him ‘martyr of education’.
