Makkah Pact Is Primarily a Defense Alliance, Expansion Not Currently Under Consideration: Pakistan Foreign Office

Shiite News: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the “Makkah Pact,” concluded last month between Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, is primarily a defense alliance and that there are currently no plans under consideration to expand it.

During the weekly press briefing, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said that the fundamental objective of the Makkah Defense Alliance is to ensure regional security through deterrence.

He further stated that expanding the pact is not currently under consideration because Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia first need to further strengthen the alliance’s organizational structure and mutual cooperation. According to the spokesperson, once the alliance has been fully consolidated, the pact will be open to countries that share a similar position and outlook on the matter.

Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan emphasized that the three member countries are continuing consultations at various levels under the agreement and that any decision regarding its expansion will be taken at a later stage. He said that, at the current stage, no discussions are taking place regarding the expansion of the Makkah Pact.
