Shiite News: According to the report, prior to the Hijrah (migration) to Madinah, the polytheists of Makkah—particularly Abu Sufyan and the Banu Umayyah clan, including the family of Muawiyah—subjected the Banu Hashim to severe persecution. The report states that Imam Ali (AS), the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with the family of Abu Talib, consistently defended the Prophet.
The report further claims that shortly after the Hijrah, Hind bint Utbah and Abu Sufyan initiated the Battle of Badr against Madinah, during which several prominent figures of the Banu Umayyah were killed by Imam Ali (AS).
It also states that in the following year, Hind and Abu Sufyan launched the Battle of Uhud in defense of the idols Lat, Uzza, Manat, and Hubal, which the report identifies as deities worshipped by the Banu Umayyah. According to the report, Imam Ali (AS) played a decisive role in the battles of Badr, Uhud, Khaybar, the Trench (Khandaq), and Hunayn, where many opponents were killed in combat.
