Three LeJ & Taliban militants killed in Karachi blast
A bomb went off accidentally when militants of outlawed Taliban and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (SSP) were shifting it in the Sohrab Goth neighbourhood of Karachi Wednesday night.
At least three militants of outlawed terrorists outfits of Taliban and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were killed in the explosion that took place near an unoccupied building at a stone’s throw from Al-Asif Square.
According to reports, a taxi, rigged with 300 kilogrammes of explosives, was found parked near the blast site. Police said the militants might have been preparing the taxi to attack some target in the city. In the process one of the bombs might have exploded accidentally, police added.
Police blamed the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan for the blast, saying the three persons killed were suspected militants.
Parts of Sohrab Goth are dominated by a local group of the Deobandi Taliban’s according to the police. Two Rangers personnel and a police constable have been killed in recent attacks in the area and the police believe the same group was behind Wednesday’s attack.
On Tuesday the Sohrab Goth police station had come under an armed attack. A policeman had died and two others were injured in the attack.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that two suspects had been freed from the lock-up during the attack, but Mr Jaffri said the attackers could not enter the premises and had fled from the gate.
On Monday, a kiosk of Sohrab Goth police was attacked by a mob and two motorcycles, a police van and a car was set ablaze.
In the second half of last year, two health workers associated with the polio eradication campaign had been killed while two others injured in attacks in the same area.
