Millions of mourners attended first mourning congregations of Muharram ul Haram: Shiite News Report

First mourning congregations of Muharram ul Haram took place in different areas of the city and were attended by millions of mourners. According to Shiite news reporter, the central mourning congregation, in Karachi, is taking place at Nishtar Park and is being addressed by famous scholar Allama Abbas Kumeli whereas other major mourning congregations (majaalis) are taking place at Mehfil Khurasan, Aza Khana e Zahra, Shrarikatul Hussain Gulistan e Johar, Mehfil e Murtaza, I.R.C Ayesha Manzil, Markazi Imambargah Jafar e Tayyar, Shuhada e Karbala Imambargah Incholi and Rizvia Society and Allama Hassan Zafar Naqvi, Allama Ali Raza Rizvi, Allama Zaki Baqri, Allama Talib Johri, Allama Shahanshah Naqvi are addressing the congregations respectively.  

Sabeel of Imam Hussain (as)

Shiite news correspondent reported that as soon as the moon of Muharram was sighted, mourners of Imam Hussain (as) set up sabeels (stalls of water and juices) at different locations in the city in order to provide water and juices to thirsty people in remembrance of the thirst of Imam Hussain (as) and his companions in the battlefield of Karbala.

Alam of Hazrat Abbas (as) and Aza Khana

With the start of Muharram, mourners have changed the cloth of Hazrat Abbas’ Alam (battlefield flag) to black that is the symbol of sorrow and grief. On the other hand, mourners also set up Aza khanas in their homes to organize congregations in remembrance of Imam Hussain (as).

Security/Scouts

Security in the city has been on high alert, by law enforcement agencies, with regard to Muharram ul Haram whereas Shia scouts and volunteers have also made arrangements for the security of mourning congregations in order to protect the mourners.
