PML-N Punjab Government Registers Case for Reciting Durood Before Adhan
Shiite News: In a controversial move, the Punjab government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has registered a criminal case against the moazzin of Jamia Masjid Ghausia Rizvia in Hafeez Park, Gojra, for reciting Durood upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his purified Ahl al-Bayt (AS), and his Companions before the Adhan.
According to details, Punjab Police continues its actions perceived as hostile to religion, Islamic tradition, and freedom of worship.
An FIR has been registered under Section 6 of the Punjab Sound Systems Regulation Act (PSSR) against mosque Imam Asif Mahmood Mustafai, accusing him of reciting Salawat in a loud voice before the call to prayer. The police claim that upon their arrival, the imam locked the mosque gate and fled.
Shia community sources highlight that this is not the first instance; hundreds of similar “bogus cases” have previously been registered against Shia citizens simply for delayed processions or holding private majalis without prior police intimation.
Critics say the actions of Punjab Police contradict the Chief Minister’s self-claimed religious background, making it appear as if strict anti-religious policies are being imposed rather than those befitting an Islamic republic.
