Shiite News: On the occasion of World Philosophy Day, observed on 20 November 2025, eminent religious scholar and head of Shia Ulema Council, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, stated that philosophy is not mere debate but the beginning of guidance and a treasure of knowledge that shapes human identity and civilizational development.
He said that despite rapid scientific advancement, philosophy remains radiant and relevant as it offers solutions to humanity’s diverse intellectual challenges.
Citing the observations of great philosophers, Allama Naqvi said philosophy has never remained confined to a single linear direction; rather, it has adapted to the requirements and perspectives of every era.
Its distinguishing features include the analysis of the universe, the study of living beings, and awakening of human consciousness and critical thinking.
He emphasized that philosophy has provided the best solutions to many global contradictions. While science dominates the modern world, philosophy once held the same level of intellectual authority.
World Philosophy Day reminds us that true philosophy is the pursuit of truth, a reflection upon the purpose of human creation and the universe.
Allama Naqvi highlighted the legacy of Islamic philosophy, saying it opened doors to ethics, justice, sociology, and knowledge.
He said asking questions is not misguidance but the beginning of guidance, as the Qur’an states in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:269): “Whoever is granted wisdom has indeed been granted abundant good.”
He also emphasized that Greek philosophy entered the Arab world and Muslim thinkers Islamized it, producing monumental works.
He recommended Shahid Baqir Al-Sadr’s Falsafatuna as a key source for deeper understanding.
World Philosophy Day is marked annually on the third Thursday of November under UNESCO’s auspices, highlighting the significance of philosophical thought in society.
