Pakistan Shuts Borders With Afghanistan For An Indefinite Period

Shiite News: According to Express Tribune, Pakistan has decided to keep its borders with Afghanistan closed for an indefinite period amid rising tensions.
Sources say the move comes after Taliban authorities warned Afghan traders to reduce reliance on Pakistan and seek alternative trade routes.
Officials told the Tribune that Islamabad’s message to Kabul is clear: no reopening of border crossings until concrete action is taken against banned TTP and other militant outfits. They said the closure is not a routine administrative step but a major strategic policy shift.
A senior official said: “For Pakistan, security comes first and trade later. There can be no negotiations until decisive action is taken against TTP and associated groups.”
The closure has already stretched beyond one month, leaving thousands of trucks stranded on both sides. Currently, only humanitarian movement is permitted, mainly to allow stranded individuals and Afghan refugees to return.
The official added: “For us, the lives of our people matter more than trade or economic loss. There can be no compromise on security.”
