People Must Stand Against Attack on Constitution: Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri

Shiite News: Chairman of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, addressed a press conference alongside leaders of Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan, rejecting the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment and announcing a national campaign against it.
He warned that the upcoming amendments constitute a direct attack on the Constitution, and it is the duty of every citizen to rise against it, “otherwise, there will be no one left to hold Pakistan together.”
He recalled that the first assault on the Constitution occurred during the February 8, 2024 elections and drew parallels with past military takeovers by Ayub Khan, Zia-ul-Haq, and Yahya Khan. “When the powerful escape accountability, they turn into Pharaohs and crush every dissenting voice,” he said.
Referring to the proposed 27th Amendment, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas expressed deep concern over planned changes to Article 243, under which the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff would be abolished, granting all command authority to the Army Chief.
“In 2019, when India attacked, the Army Chief advised restraint, while the Air Force Chief chose to respond — and it was the Air Force that retaliated. Now they want to concentrate all power in one office,” he warned.
He said the proposed lifelong immunity for powerful individuals is a blow to civil supremacy and contrary to both the Constitution and the will of the people.
“No one should be allowed to remain indefinitely in authority. Granting lifelong protection to the oppressors is both unconstitutional and unjust,” he asserted.
He concluded that the group pushing these amendments “is acting as if it claims divine authority, but Allah is Just and does not allow oppression. These amendments will ultimately prove to be nothing but a spider’s web.”
