There are people in Islamabad who want to show their allegiance to Daesh: Army Chief

The head of Pakistan army General Raheel Sharif termed Daesh a greater threat than Al-Qaeda and said that even a shadow of Daesh would not be allowed in Pakistan.

According to the report of a French news agency, Sharif, in an address to The Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies in London, said that even a shadow of Daesh would not be allowed in Pakistan.

”There are people in Islamabad who want to show their allegiance to Daesh which is a very dangerous phenomenon,” Sharif said.

COAS said dealing with Daesh was set to become an ever greater challenge than the Al-Qaeda network that was behind 9/11 attacks in the United States.

“I feel the future challenge is Daesh. It’s a bigger name. Al-Qaeda was a name but Daesh is now a bigger name,” Sharif said regarding the extremist organization that established the self-proclaimed Caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

He further said “the reconciliation in Afghanistan is very important. If we do not do it in the proper manner and the Afghan Taliban splinter, they would go for a bigger name and that is Daesh”.

Regarding the ongoing peace dialogues in Afghanistan, Army Chief said that Pakistan army and government completely support the long-term and enduring peace in Afghanistan.

General Raheel Sharif , in his address, termed the Kashmir issue an unfinished agenda of partition of the Subcontinent and the world community must come forward to help resolve the longstanding issue if it wants genuine peace in the region.

He said that Indian extremism along the Line of Control has been adversely affecting the region.

It should be clear that Jama’a Hafsa and Moulana Abdul Aziz, in Islamabad, openly invited Daesh to help them and its video has also been revealed. (News department)
