NADRA prepared ‘Criminal Record System’ to find terrorists

NADRA, in order to help out the law enforcement agencies, has prepared a comprehensive ‘Criminal Record System’, by making use of the modern technology, to find and locate terrorists and other criminals and their activities. A senior officer told ‘The News’ that NADRA is also preparing a software for the registration of country’s religious institutions (madaaris) and it will soon be given to the Interior Ministry that is following the National Action Plan against terrorism. The officer further told that the ‘Criminal Record System’ has already been given to law enforcement agencies and now the authority is preparing the ‘Bio-metric database’ against terrorists and other criminals. The software contains name and basic details of criminals and terrorists and NADRA will help out law enforcement agencies by collecting the bio-metric details of those criminals. Around 64,000 Afghan refugees have so far been identified, as a result of raids against foreigners, who had registered themselves at NADRA as Pakistani citizens. However, all such applications were rejected before reaching to the final phase.

The officer further told that after the appointment of current Chairman (Usman) of NADRA, the authority has invalidated 3031 CNICs, issued to Afghan refugees, within last few months. According to official documents, NADRA has deposed 140 employees including a Director General, 3 Directors and 10 Deputy Directors for being involved in financial corruption and for registering foreigners as Pakistani citizens. NADRA spokesperson Samad Khurram also confirmed the news and told that some of those deposed employees have been sent to jail whereas some have been given into FIA custody for further investigation. He told that positive changes have been made in NADRA under the leadership of new Chairman Usman Mubeen and authority’s first six months’ revenue has crossed 9 billion 60 lacs. The department gas earned profit of 3 billion from February to July, this year. He further told that authority’s revenue for the year 2014 was 10 billion rupees. Apart from this, NADRA has also won a 3 billion rupee contract from Kenya for making electronic passports. NADRA is the only government department exporting technology and also helped telecommunication companies in bio-metric registration of mobile Sims of 175 million users.
