Pak-Afghan borders need to be secured for gainful conclusion of Zarb-e-Azb: COAS
The army chief said reconciliation process is extremely important for lasting peace in Afghanistan. General Raheel insisted that a peaceful Afghanistan would open regional connectivity and practical steps are required to manage the Pak-Afghan border for the gainful conclusion of Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
According to ISPR, army chief addressed CENTCOM South Asia Security Conference in Marshal Centre in Munich, Germany. The conference discussed regional peace and security with special focus on perpetual instability in Afghanistan and its effects on the whole region. The army chief of Pakistan discussed Pakistan’s internal and external situation and told the participants about peace efforts in Pakistan. While talking about perpetual instability in Afghanistan and its effects on Pakistan, he said that lasting peace in Afghanistan is vital for the reconciliation process and a secure Afghanistan could open regional connectivity. Despite all the hurdles we are willing to establish peace, he added.
“Practical steps are required to manage Pak-Afghan borders for gainful conclusion of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and stability in Pakistan will increase the economic cooperation within the region,” the COAS said. He expressed that benefits of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project can be shared and this project will benefit all countries of the region. He further said that socio-economic development of Pakistan is essential to address menace of terrorism and Pakistan is determined to thwart terrorism.
