CII has no authority to issue a fatwa on blasphemy, Allama Syed Hasnain Abbas Gardezi

Shiite News: President of the Majlis Ulema Maktaba-e-Ahlul-Bayt Pakistan, Allama Syed Hasnain Abbas Gardezi, has said that the Council of Islamic Ideology does not have the authority to issue a fatwa on blasphemy against any individual or group.

He said that the scope of the Council is limited to constitutional and legal recommendations, while the authority to decide on a person’s blasphemy lies only with regular judicial forums.

Allama Hasnain Gardezi further said that in recent days, some controversial opinions have been coming out from the Council, which can fuel sectarian division in the society. He clarified that such measures are detrimental to the unity of the Muslim Ummah and affect religious harmony.
