Terrorists targeting witnesses of Safoora incident

Companions of terrorists involved in Safoora incident have started targeting witnesses of Safoora incident and the both government and police have failed to provide security to the witnesses despite the approval of ‘Witness protection Bill’. According to sources, the companions of those terrorists who were arrested for being involved in Safoora incident, have started targeting people who are witnesses against the culprits in different cases. Police told that associates of arrested terrorists killed an official of anti-corruption force and the driver of Sabeen Mehmood in Korangi Bhitai Colony, an area that comes under the control of Ibrahim Haidri police station, on 7th September 2015.The driver Ghulam Abbas son of Muhammad Afzal was the eyewitness of Sabeen Mehmood’s murder and he also identified the terrorists. It should be clear that terrorists arrested for Safoora incident also confessed of killing Sabeen Mehmood. A senior police official told Jang that this group also killed the sub-inspector Ishtiaq Awan in Hyderabad on Monday 21st September. He told that sub-inspector Ishtiaq Awan was an important witness of sub-inspector Manoj Kumar’s murder that took place four years ago. Sub-inspector Ishtiaq, just four days ago, identified the major culprit of Safoora incident Tahir Minhas and his companions as also the murderers of Manoj Kumar and had also given testament against them. According to the police, deceased sub-inspector Manoj Kumar had arrested Tahir Minhas in 2007 in case of kidnapping for ransom and this became the reason that Tahir Minhas, after his release, killed sub-inspector Manoj Kumar. Senior Police official told that both government and police has been unsuccessful in providing security to witnesses despite the approval of ‘Witness Protection Bill’ and people are afraid to give testimony and do not cooperate with law enforcement agencies due to this insecurity.
