Karachi Treated Like a Stepchild, City Drowning in Problems: Allama Shabbir Hassan Maisami
Shiite News: Allama Shabbir Hassan Maisami, Central Secretary General of the Shia Ulema Council Pakistan, has strongly criticized the government and municipal authorities for neglecting Karachi.
He said that rainwater from recent downpours is still gathered on the streets and in neighborhoods, creating a high risk of epidemics and other diseases.
He particularly highlighted the plight of Scheme 33, one of the most densely populated areas of the city, which he said currently resembles a “mini sea.”
Yet, no government or municipal representative has visited the area. “Karachi is drowning in heaps of problems,” he remarked, adding that the city contributes the highest share of taxes to Pakistan’s economy, but is treated like a stepchild.
Allama Maisami further noted that Karachi’s main roads are in a dilapidated condition, forcing residents to spend hours on journeys that should take minutes, leaving them in severe distress. Meanwhile, municipal authorities continue to sit in their offices, claiming that everything is fine.
He criticized Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and his team for their complete failure to address civic issues. “Billions were spent on Karachi’s major roads, yet they are in shambles today. Even after gaining authority, the municipal institutions have failed to solve the problems of water and sewage. Where should the people go now?” he asked.
