Crackdown on Arbaeen Processions Across Punjab, Shiite targeted
Shiite News – Following the ban on overland travel to Iran for Arbaeen pilgrims, authorities in Punjab have now launched an open crackdown to stop the traditional “Mashi Sayyid al-Shuhada (A.S.)” walks held on Chehlum of Imam Hussain (A.S.) within Pakistan.
In Multan, an SHO reportedly entered Masjid Jafariya in Suraj Miani and threatened worshippers, warning that anyone participating in the Mashi Walk on 20th Safar would be “dealt with directly” by the police.
In Talagang and Chakwal, prominent Shia figures were summoned to police stations and offices, where they were allegedly coerced into recording video statements declaring that no Mashi Walk should take place.
Similar pressure tactics were reported in Joharabad and other districts, where community leaders were approached in the same manner.
Sources say these actions are not isolated incidents but part of an organized plan aimed at restricting Shia religious symbols and blocking avenues for Azadari (mourning processions).
Community members warned:
“This is only the beginning — this ban is just a trailer. If we do not stand up now, even harsher measures will follow in the coming days.”
