Shiite News: Chairman Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen Pakistan Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri has said in his statement issued from the media cell that Gilgit-Baltistan is an important region in terms of defense, strategy and economy, is located between four nuclear powers and its borders meet with China, India and Afghanistan.

Despite this, the people here have not only been deprived of constitutional rights, but also deprived of contacts on the basis of cross-border human and cultural relations.

Borders with India and Afghanistan in other Pakistani regions are open on commercial and humanitarian grounds, but these routes are completely closed for Gilgit-Baltistan.

The only international trade corridor connecting the region with China is the “Karakoram Highway”, which meets China at Sost.

In the past, a bilateral trade policy was formulated under the Pak-China Border Agreement, but in recent years, this border has become a source of difficulties for local traders.

Illegal taxes are being imposed by the FBR, contrary to the controversial status of GB, which has further increased economic pressure. Currently, traders of Gilgit-Baltistan are protesting at the Sost border. Arrests, threats and high-handed tactics by the government have further inflamed public anger.

He said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, who liberated their land themselves and joined Pakistan, are still waiting for constitutional and economic justice.

Border closure may be a long-standing desire of global powers and enemy states, but if local governments and institutions move in this direction, they will unknowingly reinforce these same agendas.
