25 years ago today, on April 12, 2000, 6 Muharram 1413 AH, during a mourning ceremony at Imambargah Karam Hussain Shah in Malhowali Tehsil of Attock District, armed terrorists from the banned terrorist Jamaat-e-Sipah-e-Sahaba attacked mourners at night.
The terrorists involved in this incident, Qari Mahmood Usmani, Malik Qasim Awan, Malik Azizuddin Awan and others, opened fire indiscriminately on unarmed mourners with Kalashnikovs and also attacked them with hand grenades.
In 2017, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, while pronouncing the verdict in the Malhowali Attock tragedy case, commuted the death sentence of the said criminals to life imprisonment by the High Court.
