MWM demands Karachi be given under army control
Karachi: Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has rejected the government’s idea of ban on cell phones and motorcycle riding and demanded that Karachi should be given under army control.
“In fact, government has failed to shoulder its responsibility that is maintenance of peace during Moharram,†said Allama Amin Shaheedi, deputy secretary general of the MWM while presiding over a meeting of his party at Wahdat House on Monday evening.
Maulana Mukhtar Imami, Maulana Sadiq Raza Taqvi and other office bearers of the MWM Sindh and Karachi chapters attended the hurriedly called meeting that discussed the overall situation in the wake of bomb blast near an Imam Bargah on Sunday night.
The MWM moot was of the view that the government’s measures adopted to thwart terrorism during Moharram were inadequate.
“In theory government exists, and in practice, terrorist rules Karachi. These are terrorists who perpetrate their activities but government lacks ability to punish them,†Allama Shaheedi said.
He urged the state institutions to take practical steps and stern action against the terrorists instead of patronizing them.
“There must be a psycho-test of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik because he always beat around the bush instead of nipping the terrorism in the bud,†he said.
The MWM central leaders said ban on mobile SIMs and motorcycle riding would never help thwart terrorism but an even-handed operation against the notorious terrorists of outlawed terror groups would sort out the problem.
He vowed that those trying to limit and reduce azadari would be eliminated but azadari of Imam Hussain (AS) and martyrs of Karbala would continue. He maintained that no machination against the azadar (mourners of Imam Hussain) and azadari would be tolerated.
