Parachinar cut off from country for 15 days
Shiite News: The situation in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has been tense since long.
More than two weeks have passed since a major highway between Peshawar and Parachinar has been closed for traffic.
The Parachinar, Pusharo road has been closed for all traffic since an attack on a passenger convoy on October 12 killed several people.
And according to local people, due to this situation, there is a fear of shortage of food items, oil and medicines in the area. As a result of the attack on the passenger convoy, 15 people were killed.
Due to the closure of the land route between Parachinar and Peshawar, many people are stranded between the two cities.
Bashir Hussain, who came from Saudi Arabia to meet his family in Parachinar after a long gap of two years, has been stuck in Pasharo for the last 10 days due to this situation.
They have not been able to reach their native areas due to the closure of the roads leading to Parachinar.
He says that ‘My parents and my children are all waiting for me, I have tried to go to meet them but the roads are blocked.
There is also a fear that even if I go to Parachinar, there is a fear that I might get stuck there.
Bashir Hussain complains about the administration and says that it is the responsibility of the government to normalize the situation, if the government succeeds in fulfilling its responsibility, then the situation can be peaceful as before.
Students are also worried due to the situation due to road closure. A student said that due to the tense situation, students are unable to go to school.
Exams are going on nowadays and due to shortage of petrol and diesel in Parachinar, many students could not reach school, college.
When contacted, an official of the district administration said that the Grand Jirga has started efforts to normalize the situation and a solution to the problem will be found soon.
The situation in Kurram has been tense due to such problems in the past as well.
The land dispute is old in the area but during the last few months the situation has become so tense that the land dispute which started between the tribes has taken a religious and sectarian form.
