ASWJ aide Hafeezur Rehman takes oath as G-B chief minister

Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Gilgit-Baltistan Chapter President Hafeezur Rehman on Saturday taken oath as the province’s chief minister.

The ruling PML-N which secured the majority seats of Gilgit-Baltistan province because of the differences between shiite religio-political parties and patronage of Pakistani-establishment has setup its first ever government in shiite dominated province alone.

The Newly elected Chief Minister Of Gilgit-Baltistan Mr Hafeezur Rehman has also enjoyed the support of banned outfit AhleSunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) which also played vital role over his success in the GB elections and then elected the Chief Minister Of the province.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would not be in attendance as he could not travel due to bad weather conditions.

A reliable source from the PML-N informed that the new cabinet will be announced in a few days. Furthermore, the premier congratulated the new Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly Speaker Haji Fida Mohammad Naushad and Deputy Speaker Jafar Allah Khan on being elected unopposed.

PML-N appeared on top during the June 8 elections, which were conducted under the supervision of the Pakistan Army. Hafeezur Rahman said his government’s top priority would be the elimination of corruption and restoration of merit in the region.

“We will work for the betterment of the region and for that we would take the opposition into confidence.”
